ABOUT

Who We Are

We have been developing web sites since 1997, before the term SEO or Google had even come into being. This means that our breadth of knowledge and experience is deeper and wider than most.

Our experience in web site development and hosting means we also understand the technical and server side of SEO. To avoid undesirable content in the search indexes, we can instruct spiders not to crawl certain files or directories through the standard robots.txt file in the root directory of the domain. Additionally, a page can be explicitly excluded from a search engine’s database by using a meta tag specific to robots. When a search engine visits a site, the robots.txt located in the root directory is the first file crawled. Pages typically prevented from being crawled include login specific pages such as shopping carts and user-specific content such as search results from internal searches. We are careful to ensure that pages that should be are crawled and indexed.

SEO ( Search Engine Optimisation )

What is SEO ? Simply put, SEO can be described as the work done to make a site easily discoverable by someone searching for it. A more precise answer is that SEO is the active practice of optimizing a web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines. Firms that practice SEO can vary; some have a highly specialized focus while others take a more broad and general approach. Optimizing a web site for search engines can require looking at so many unique elements that many practitioners of SEO ( SEO’s ) consider themselves to be in the broad field of website optimization ( since so many of those elements intertwine ).
The majority of web traffic is driven by the major commercial search engines such as Google. If your site cannot be found by search engines or your content cannot be put into their databases, you miss out on the incredible opportunities available to websites provided via search - people who want what you have visiting your site. Whether your site provides content, services, products or information, search engines are a primary method of navigation for almost all Internet users.
We have been approached by many organisations that are paying substantial sums to google.com and similar PPC (Pay Per Click) organisations in order to boost traffic. We are not saying that these programs are not valuable, and indeed, we manage such programs for clients. ( Read our pay per click marketing chapter below ) However, SEO allows you a very valuable chance of getting a high placement for your site without paying out indefinitely. You can get an idea of the value of SEO from this excellent article on Search Engine Optimisation in The Times Online.

PPC ( Pay Per Click )

Our PPC management services work hand in hand with our Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) work to ensure that maximum traffic is attained and our clients achieve enviable new customer acquisition results. Search engine optimisation work often has limits for companies who have just launched a website. Sites can encounter the so called “Google Sandbox effect” such that an infant site (infant being 12 months or less) is not placed in the first page for a very competitive word or phrase. A good backup is to implement a moderate PPC campaign to counter this effect. Valuable keyword information is gained by the process which can then feed into an ongoing SEO program. Over time as ‘natural’, or ‘organic’ ranking improves this program can be scaled down.

CMS ( Content Management System )

A Content Management System is a way of managing the content of a web site (typically text and images) that does not involve any knowladge of programming on the part of the person adding the content. The technology is very similar to using the tools of a word processors, so if you can use Word, then you can update your web site.

Most systems use a database to hold the content, which is then displayed on the web site template. Updating the web site is typically done through a web browser such as Internet Explorer, or Firefox.
